Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2013

I would like to thank SATTB  in choosing me again to represent South Africa, this time at the Commonwealth Table Thennis Championship held in New Delhi, India 5~10 May 2013.

First up was the Teams event, then after that follows the open section.
In the teams event we were drawn in the same group as Singapore (Champions) and Australia. Singapore was the first game for us, and the strength of the Singaporean was just far too good, we lost 3-0. Australia was also too strong for us, and we again lost 3-0. So we now had to fight for position 9~13, and it was another round robin of 5 teams (New Zealand, Canada, Maldives, Nigeria).

We meet Maldvies 3-0,  next we lost to Nigeria 3-1, while I had a close win over Fatima Kazeem (11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8). Infact the Nigerian game was all very close and it was a 50-50 chance for both sides. Next up was Canada where we lost 3-1, I had a win by walkover.

Lastly it was agaist New Zealand, New Zealand rested they number 1 player and my good friend Sarah Her-Lee. I was first up and lost to Natalie Paterson 1-3, my team mate Zodwa took the 2nd game 3-0 and Khanyisile took the 3rd game 3-1, at this stage we were up 2-1. Zodwa was next and lost to Natalie 1-3, so it was 2-2. It was up to Armindeep Singh and myself to finish it off.
With huge pressure, I managed to take the first set 11-8, and lost the 2nd with 9-11, I then fought back and won the 3rd with 11-4 and all the pressure was gone when I got the winning point to take the 4th set 12-10, and together with that the game and matches both at 3-2 in favour of South Africa.

Warming up with my new gear

Who would tell us about love, we are table tennis players. A ball and a racket takes us to a different world. A world where nothing else matters but being on the board and that to us is what we call Love. A place of warmth and happiness. I’m a Ping Ponghollic and that makes me feel at home. >>Showing it all to everyone at a Chinese mall in Johannesburg.

The 2012 African Junior Champs which were held in Algeria in April was quite a challenge. All thanks to our strong team spirit that our girls team was able to bring a medal. Getting through all these countries we won was a mission. But nothing good was ever achieved without struggle. Determination did take us a step further on this tournament. A bronze medal was definitely worth the fight.

The South African Junior team having great moments at African Juniors Champs Opening Ceremony. Talking about my last year as a juniors, each moment with the team was very special.

Team South Africa’s departure to Dortmud,Germany for World Team Championships that took place in March of 2012. Some of us are quite excited since its the 1st time traveling with the senior team but the most of all was seeing the big teams and well known Table tennis players. Best experience so far on my table tennis career.

South African under18 Junior girls participated at African Junior Championships as well as World Junior Circuit which were held in Cape Town, South Africa on March – April of 2011. The team came 4th at World Junior Circuits receiving a bronze medal and 3rd at African Junior Champs receiving a bronze medal as well. They were selected as one of the three countries that presented Africa at World Junior Championships that took place in Bahrain.
